Frequently Asked Questions

How is Christian counseling different from secular counseling?

Christ-centered, biblically based counseling recognizes Scripture as the ultimate source of truth. While secular counseling seeks to make an individual happy through self-fulfillment, Christians believe true peace and joy are found through a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. As a Christian, your counselor utilizes only those psychological principles and techniques that are compatible with biblical principles.

What is the initial session going to be like?

Your first session is a time for your and your counselor to get to know one another. There will be some paperwork involved, but you will have the opportunity to share your story and your reason for coming to counseling. You and your counselor will discuss your goals and begin planning to meet them.

Paperwork and “housekeeping” include:

  • Completing the client information packet (if you have not already done so)

  • Discussing the sliding fee scale to determine the amount you will pay for services

  • Reviewing confidentiality and other office policies and procedures

  • Discussing your goals for therapy sessions with your therapist and asking questions you may have

  • Agreeing on session frequency and scheduling your next appointment

What do I do as a client?

Counseling sessions typically last 45-50 minutes. During this time, you and your counselor will examine the concerns that brought you into counseling. Often, this involves looking at current behavior and thought patterns as well as exploring historical areas like past family or social relationships.

Your commitment and participation in counseling are vitally important. Most clients meet with the counselor on a weekly basis for at least 6 to 8 weeks. At times, the process may be challenging and bring up issues and feelings that you would rather avoid. However, by addressing and dealing with these, you are taking steps toward healing and wholeness.

Do you accept medical insurance?

We are unable to accept insurance. However, services are offered at an affordable price, eliminating the need for clients to utilize their health insurance. Please keep in mind that for clients to use insurance for counseling, they are required to be diagnosed with some form of mental illness/disorder.

What are your fees?

The fee for the first session is $40. This meeting allows you and your counselor to determine if you are a good fit for one another. Fees for further sessions are determined on a sliding fee scale.

How may I pay fees?

Fees may be paid in cash, credit card, or check written to Martina Boquet. Venmo@Martina-Boquet
